What is Pitru Paksha?

Pitru Paksha is a 16-day period in the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada / Ashwin when families offer prayers and food to their ancestors. These offerings bring peace to the souls of the departed and blessings for the family.

Pitri Pokkho, Sola Shraddh, Apara Paksha, Mahalaya Paksha, Jitiya, Kanagat

Importance of Pitru Paksha

According to Hindu scriptures, one must repay three debts in life – to the Gods (Dev), Sages (Rishi), and Ancestors (Pitru).
Performing Shraddha and Pind Daan during Pitru Paksha helps:

• Bring peace to departed souls

• Remove Pitru Dosha

• Gain blessings for children, happiness, and prosperity

Pitru Paksha Shraddha Procedure

All rituals are done as per Vedic customs by learned priests.

Steps in the Puja:

1. Sankalpa

2. Vinayaka Puja

3. Paada Puja

4. Vishnu Puja & Archana

5. Pitru Archana (for 3 generations)

6. Anna Puja

7. Brahmana Bhojana & Honor

8. Pind Daan

9. Tarpan

10. Daan & Final Bhojan

Duration: 60 to 120+ minutes depending on puja type
